Zwelinzima Vavi, the COSATU General Secretary, will address the 11th National Congress of the Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU), as follows:

VENUE:                 Hall 4A, Cape Town International Convention Centre

Mr Vavi’s address is expected to cover current socio-economic and political challenges facing the South African labour movement.

The theme of SACTWU’s 11th National Congress is ‘A new growth path for decent work in the clothing, textile, footwear and leather industry’.

The Congress session from 09h00 to 13h00 on 23 September is open to the media. This session will cover the Congress opening and welcome speech by the SACTWU’s President (Mr Themba Khumalo), credentials report, address by Mr Vavi, minutes of the previous Congress, a special tribute to Violet Seboni, an overview of the Congress Secretariat report by Andre Kriel (SACTWU General Secretary) and a solidarity address by Issa Aremu (General Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment & Tailoring Workers of Nigeria).

A media registration desk will be available at the Congress venue.
