Solidarity and co-operation between workers in all countries are vital to build a better world. In the age of globalisation, this is very important because exploitation in one part of the world causes job losses and poverty in another part of the world. In addition, the clothing, textile and footwear sector is the most globally integrated part of manufacturing with low barriers of entry and a highly mobile industry.
SACTWU is active in global bodies and has an active global solidarity programme. We are affiliated to the International Textile Garment and Leather Workers' Federation (ITGLWF) and, through COSATU, to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
SACTWU has bilateral solidarity programmes with a number of countries, the strongest of which are with Nigeria and the United States . These union to union programmes embrace exchange of leadership and staff, study visits and active working together to help unionise workers.
SACTWU's General Secretary serves on the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation, the UN agency responsible for setting global standards in the world of work.
