The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has settled its 2012 wage negotiations for Goodhope Sales’ fifty five South African stores. The agreement was reached after the union had declared a dispute, which resulted in a union-conducted settlement secret ballot. Voting in the ballot commenced on 5 April 2012 and was finalised on 10 April 2012.  A total of 274 workers participated in the ballot, of which 228 (83%) voted in favour of a settlement and 46 (17%) voted for strike action. The agreed wage increases vary between 6% and 10.5%, with the average package settlement being  8% nationally, backdated to 1 March 2012. This is 2% more than the headline CPI of 6.1% as at the end of February 2012.  The settlement includes improvements in long service bonuses and paternity leave.
