Press Statement: Immediate

The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has concluded its first rounds of wage negotiations, in the various clothing, textile, leather  and related sectors, over the period  from the 18  April to the first week of May 2012.

On average, employers have tabled first wage increase offers ranging between 2.5% to 6%. Regrettably,  there is no offer from clothing industry employers, as they chose to ‘disengage’, as they call it, from the negotiations at this stage.

The next rounds of negotiations are scheduled to take place between 13 May and 16 June 2012.

Most increases are due with effect from 1st July 2012, except for the clothing industry for which wage increases are only due on 1st September this year.

SACTWU is determined to fight for a decent wage increase for our members.
