PRESS RELEASE:  IMMEDIATE

The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has declared a wage dispute in the Worsted Textiles Sector, after three rounds of negotiations.

The final positions of the parties were as follows: employers are offering a 6.25% wage increase and the trade union is demanding an 8.5% increase.

SACTWU has referred the dispute for Conciliation. If conciliation does not yield a settlement, the union intends to ballot its members for strike action.

Wage increases for this sector are due on 1 July 2012.
