On 1st March 2013 the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) will have a Day of Action in Cape Town. This will take place on the second day of SACTWU’s annual Bargaining Conference.  The Day of Action responds to employment security threats currently faced by workers in our industry (clothing, textiles, leather and footwear).

We will be marching to SARS (Customs) in Cape Town CBD to raise our concerns about the influx of counterfeit and illegal imports into South Africa, which severely threatens the sustainability of  local clothing, textile and leather companies and significantly contributes to the devastating job losses our industry has suffered.  A memorandum will be handed over. Copies of the memorandum will be available to the media, at the protest.

The details of this protest march are as follows:

Date:                1 March 2013
Time:                10h00-10h40
Venue:              Start on Corner of Long and Loop streets and proceed to SARS Customs building in Hans Strydom
Participants:      Approximately 200 SACTWU shop stewards and staff from all parts of the country, including from Newcastle

The media is invited to attend and to report on the protest.
