The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has taken note of the Cabinet reshuffling announcements made by President Jacob Zuma, yesterday. We align ourselves with the general response statements of COSATU, regarding the matter.

More specifically from our side, we comment as follows:
We congratulate the new Cabinet appointees and wish all of  them strength and determination in their new deployment. We thank the outgoing Ministers for their contributions.

Without in any way implying that the other new appointees are not important, we specifically congratulate and wish Minister Connie September  everything of the best. She started off her career as a SACTWU member and shop steward in the clothing industry. After steady progress holding various leadership positions in our trade union, she was eventually elected, at our union’s National Congress, as a SACTWU National Office Bearer in the position of SACTWU National Treasurer, a position she held for a few terms. Of course, she was also subsequently elected as a COSATU National Office Bearer.

We hope the new appointees will use their terms to help advance a radical shift in service delivery, eradicating poverty, crushing inequality and escalating job creation initiatives, all of which our people so desperately need.
